Charlton Athletic have confirmed that Arthur Okonkwo has been called up by the Super Eagles for Nigeria’s next Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. The 24-year-old, on loan at Charlton from Wrexham, is pushing for his first competitive appearance in the green and white after earning two caps, including his debut during the Unity Cup at The Valley in May.
Okonkwo has played four times for Charlton this season and will compete with Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye for a start under Eric Chelle. Nigeria open the campaign at home to Madagascar’s Barea at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, 25 September, then travel four days later to face Guinea-Bissau’s Djurtus.
