It was a weekend full of milestones, debut goals, and standout performances for Nigerian footballers across Europe and beyond. Victor Osimhen reached a landmark 200 career goals, while Super Falcons stars continued to make their mark in Italy, England, and Mexico.

Turkey: Osimhen Reaches 200 Goals

Victor Osimhen’s name lit up the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday as he netted his 200th career goal for club and country. Playing for Galatasaray against Kayserispor, the Nigerian striker doubled his team’s lead in a commanding display that reminded fans why he is one of Africa’s most prolific forwards of his generation.

The milestone comes from 336 senior appearances, including 165 goals at club level. His journey includes 76 strikes for Napoli in 133 games, 51 goals in 61 matches for Galatasaray, 18 for LOSC Lille, 20 for Royal Charleroi SC, and earlier spells at VfL Wolfsburg. For Nigeria, he has scored 35 times in 51 appearances, cementing his status as the nation’s leading marksman of modern times.

Osimhen also provided an assist before exiting in the 82nd minute, with Mauro Icardi later converting a penalty to seal the win. His recent form has been remarkable, having recently become the fastest player to reach 50 goals for Galatasaray.

England: Debut and Defensive Brilliance

Joy Omewa made an immediate impact in England, scoring on her debut for Nottingham Forest Women despite a 5-1 loss to Birmingham City in the Women’s Super League 2. The Super Falcons forward drew her team level before halftime, showcasing composure and attacking awareness that has seen her score in 15 of her last 16 league matches.

At the same club, Ola Aina delivered a disciplined defensive display as Forest held Crystal Palace to a draw while playing with ten men. The Nigeria international completed eight recoveries, four clearances, and won eight of ten ground duels, proving instrumental in securing a vital point.

Christantus Uche featured from the bench for Crystal Palace, completing half of his passes and covering nearly 30 meters in ball carries. While yet to register a goal or assist this season, he continues to gain valuable top-flight experience.

Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi starred for Fulham in a narrow loss to Manchester United, completing 96% of his passes and creating two key chances. Samuel Chukwueze started just three days after the loss of his mother, showing energy and creativity before being substituted, while Calvin Bassey came on late as Fulham sought a draw.

Italy: Babajide’s Last-Minute Heroics

Babajide scored a dramatic stoppage-time equalizer for AS Roma Women against Parma, securing a 3-3 draw. The goal marked her third for Roma and her first league strike since making her Serie A debut earlier this season.

Shukurat Oladipo, meanwhile, continued her regular role in defense, helping Roma maintain a seven-match unbeaten streak atop the Serie A Femminile standings. The club now looks ahead to a crucial clash with AC Milan.

Mexico: Lawal Continues Scoring Streak

Taiwo Lawal’s fine form continued as she scored in Mazatlán FC’s 5-0 rout of Necaxa, bringing her season tally to five goals. The forward remains her club’s top scorer and will face fellow Nigerian Chinwendu Ihezuo when Mazatlán take on Pachuca next.

Saturday Highlights: Goalkeeping and Impact Substitutes

In England, Arthur Okonkwo kept a clean sheet for Wrexham in a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday. The goalkeeper has now recorded seven shutouts in 27 matches, contributing to Wrexham’s sixth-place standing and play-off push in the Championship.

In Italy, Rafiu Durosinmi made an immediate impact off the bench for Pisa, assisting their only goal in a 3-1 defeat to Sassuolo. Introduced at the start of the second half, he needed just five minutes to influence the match, highlighting his sharpness and importance to Pisa’s Nigerian contingent. Ebenezer Akinsanmiro remained an unused substitute in the same game, continuing to integrate back into the team following the AFCON break.

Across the weekend, Nigerian players proved once again why they remain influential both at home and abroad, setting new records, delivering decisive contributions, and providing glimpses of their growing international presence.
