Peter Obi has said attempts to twist the 2027 results will run into a harder wall than before. Speaking at a town hall in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday, the NDC presidential candidate told supporters that anyone counting on the IReV portal to do the old tricks should not expect a free ride.
Zoyols News reports that Obi also drew a line on polling-unit intimidation. His people, he said, will not sit still for it this time. A unit, he noted, rarely has more than five officials. That handful, he argued, has no business cowing about fifty voters.
“Coming into the 2027 election, nobody will intimidate us again at the polling unit. Forget all these noises.
“They will try to manipulate the IReV, but it won’t be easy this time around. There will be so many IReVs; if their own doesn’t work, our own will work.
“If it has glitches, we will give them a new one that has no glitches, because by allowing them to continue, the glitches will glitch our lives.”
Separately, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike answered Obi on what became of the money after fuel subsidy was dropped. At a media parley in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Wike said President Bola Tinubu cannot dictate how states and local governments spend the extra funds that now reach them.
The question Obi ought to ask, Wike insisted, is what those tiers of government have done with the extra cash, not what Abuja alone has done. “All he should have asked is, ‘Having removed the subsidy, what do you do with the gains?’ This is what I think a reasonable person should talk about.”
