Police in Abuja have rescued two abandoned babies in separate incidents that happened in Kurudu and Gwagwalada. In the first case, a resident named Mr Innocent reported hearing a baby crying along Obodo Street in Kurudu around 5:30 pm. Officers from the Kurudu Division and the Juveniles and Women Care Department responded and found a baby boy wrapped in cloth and left inside a carton box. He was taken to a nearby hospital for checks and is now stable. The child has since been handed over to the Social Welfare Department.
In the second incident the same day, a resident of Gwagwalada, Mr Ibrahim, heard a baby crying outside his gate around 9:40 pm. He and other community members rescued the baby girl and reported the matter to the Gwagwalada Police Station. She was taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for medical attention and is currently receiving care.
The FCT Police Command praised both men and other residents for their quick action and urged anyone with useful information about the mothers or families of the babies to come forward at the nearest police station.
