Promoter Warns Joshua-Fury Fight Could Fall Through

Zoyols News

he long-anticipated “Battle of Britain” between former heavyweight champions Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury remains on track for November, despite recent skepticism from Fury about whether the match will ever materialise. Prominent promoter Eddie Hearn has swiftly brushed off concerns, placing the burden of reliability firmly on Fury’s past record while reaffirming that only a loss or injury this weekend could derail the mega-fight.

Both fighters step back into the ring in mandatory warm-up bouts that serve as the final hurdles before their proposed autumn showdown. Fury takes on Poland’s Mariusz Wach in Pattaya, Thailand, in an unbroadcast contest with proceeds going to charity. Meanwhile, Joshua returns to competitive action the following evening in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he squares off against Albania’s Kristian Prenga.

Questions surrounding the fight’s viability re-emerged after Fury suggested in a recent broadcast interview that he might look toward alternative opponents later this year. However, speaking in an exclusive feature covered by Sky Sports, Hearn pointed out that Joshua’s history of honouring fight agreements speaks for itself, reminding fans that a previously signed deal between the two fell through only when Fury was forced into a third fight with Deontay Wilder by an arbitration ruling. Hearn emphasized that Joshua has consistently faced every top contender put in front of him without pulling out of scheduled events.

Beyond the physical preparations for his clash with Prenga, Joshua enters the ring carrying a heavy emotional burden. The Saudi Arabia contest marks his first appearance since a devastating car crash near Lagos in late December, an accident that tragically claimed the lives of two of his closest associates and long-time team members, Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele. Ghami had served as Joshua’s primary rehabilitation coach for over a decade, while Ayodele was his personal trainer and confidant.

The former two-time world champion admitted that the loss remains difficult to process. He shared that staying active and focused on training has been his main way of coping, as confronting the full reality of the event is still too painful.

Saturday’s fight also represents Joshua’s first step back into elite competition following his knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024. With high stakes on both sides of the globe this weekend, boxing enthusiasts around the world are watching closely, knowing that any unexpected slip-up will dash hopes for one of the biggest domestic heavyweight bouts in modern history.
