In a significant move that could reshape the political landscape in Sokoto State, Senator Abubakar Gada has officially resigned from the All Democratic Congress (ADC) to rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The former lawmaker announced his return following a series of high-level consultative meetings held in the state capital, signaling a major shift in local political alliances.
Senator Gada, who represented the Sokoto East Senatorial District between 2007 and 2011 on the PDP platform, had only joined the ADC in 2025. During his time with the ADC, he was widely regarded as a cornerstone of the party’s coalition movement. He reflected on his departure by noting that he had invested immense time, energy, and political capital into building the ADC as a credible alternative for the people. He even played a key role in bringing Northwest coalition representative, Malam Nasiru El-Rufa’i, to Sokoto to engage with local stakeholders.
The Senator’s decision to leave was sparked by emerging leadership and structural flaws within the ADC. Gada pointed out that the coalition suffered from weak cohesion and a lack of clear strategy, which made it difficult to sustain the movement. He explained that after reflecting on these realities and speaking with grassroots leaders, it became clear that the ADC was no longer the right vehicle for his political goals.
In his address, Gada described the PDP as a more structured and people-oriented platform, capable of truly advancing the interests of Sokoto residents. He mentioned that his return to the party was the result of extensive town hall meetings and strategic interactions aimed at rebuilding public confidence in the PDP. His primary goal now is to help “reclaim and rebuild” the party to ensure it can effectively compete and govern.
Local political heavyweights, including Alhaji Hamza Gatawa, Hajiya Maryam Gade, and Alhaji Tambari Tambuwal, have already voiced their support for the Senator’s move. Speaking on behalf of various stakeholders, they praised his courage and foresight in seeking a more stable platform to address the challenges facing the nation.
Senator Gada concluded by reassuring his supporters of his unwavering commitment to inclusive leadership and grassroots empowerment. He pledged to work toward a unified and prosperous Sokoto, maintaining that a dependable political platform is essential for achieving sustainable development and good governance for all.
