Tambuwal Steps Down from 2027 Senatorial Race

Zoyols News

Former Sokoto State Governor and current representative for the Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Tambuwal, has officially stepped down from the upcoming 2027 senatorial race.

This unexpected shift follows a strategic realignment within the African Democratic Congress, ADC, which has now endorsed Faruk Yabo, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, as its consensus candidate for the senatorial seat.

Political insiders tracking the developments for Zoyols News note that this is not the first time Tambuwal has made a high-profile tactical retreat. During the 2023 political cycle, he famously withdrew from the Peoples Democratic Party presidential primary to clear a path for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. His latest exit from the senatorial contest signals another major calculation in his political journey as the 2027 electoral landscape takes shape.

Meanwhile, the political reshuffling in Sokoto State extends beyond the legislative race. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, who served as deputy governor alongside Tambuwal during his gubernatorial tenure, has secured the ADC consensus ticket for the 2027 governorship election. With both a seasoned former deputy governor aiming for the state’s highest office and a former house speaker locking down the senatorial ticket, the ADC is positioning itself as a formidable force to watch in the coming elections.
