The Borno State Police Command has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic and sudden loss of two senior officers within just twenty-four hours. The news has sent shockwaves through the local law enforcement community as colleagues struggle to process the departure of two high-ranking Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed that the deaths occurred between February 20 and 21, 2026. The first loss was that of ACP Danjuma Muhammed, who served as the head of the X-Squad. He passed away on Friday after a long and difficult battle with an undisclosed illness.
Barely a day after the command began mourning Muhammed, tragedy struck again. ACP Abubakar A. Balteh lost his life in a horrific car accident on Saturday. The back-to-back loss of such experienced officers has left a significant void in the leadership ranks of the state’s police force.
To honor their memory, a solemn tribute was held during a management briefing on Monday in Maiduguri. The session was attended by department heads, divisional police officers, and members of the management team, all of whom gathered to pay their last respects to their fallen colleagues.
Reports understands that the atmosphere at the headquarters remains somber as the command prepares for the final rites of the departed officers. Their contributions to maintaining order in Borno State will certainly be remembered by the men and women who served under them.
