A wave of tragedy has once again struck the Kemanji community in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, following a violent assault on a military camp that resulted in the deaths of three soldiers. The deadly encounter occurred during the early hours of Monday, sending shockwaves through the quiet border community as the sounds of heavy gunfire filled the air.
The attackers, suspected to be armed terrorists, launched a surprise raid on the camp under the cover of darkness. The sudden nature of the invasion led to a fierce gun battle as security operatives scrambled to defend their position. Local sources familiar with the incident described the scene as chaotic and violent, noting that the terrorists took advantage of the late hour to catch the camp off guard.
A resident of the area, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, explained that Kemanji’s location near the border makes it particularly vulnerable due to the surrounding thick forests, which often provide cover for criminal elements. He noted that the soldiers were caught in a vulnerable state around 3:00 am when the invaders stormed the facility. While three personnel tragically lost their lives in the initial moments of the raid, other soldiers quickly mobilized to launch a reprisal attack against the terrorists.
The incident has heightened security concerns in the region, particularly for communities situated along these forested border lines. As of now, the atmosphere remains tense as locals and authorities alike process the loss of the brave officers who fell during the confrontation. Efforts to track the assailants continue as the military maintains a presence in the area to prevent further incursions.
