In a major breakthrough for regional security, troops from the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force have conducted a successful offensive in the notorious Sububu Forest within the Maradu Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Operating under the banner of Operation Fansan Yamma Sector 2, the soldiers engaged in intense firefights that resulted in the neutralization of several bandits and the safe rescue of a young captive.
A formal update from the Media Information Officer, Captain David Adewusi, described the operation as a significant victory in the ongoing battle against terrorism in the north. The mission led to the elimination of six terrorists and the complete destruction of several enclaves used as operational bases. The military’s push into the forest was aimed at dismantling these hideouts to restore long-awaited peace to the surrounding communities.
The offensive began with a tactical strike at Indulumu village. During this encounter, the troops confronted and killed two terrorists, recovering an AK-47 rifle in the process. Refusing to slow down, the Strike Force advanced toward Ruduno village, where they faced even stiffer resistance. In the ensuing battle, the soldiers neutralized four more bandits and seized another AK-47 along with a magazine containing 28 rounds of live ammunition. Two motorcycles, which served as the primary means of mobility for the criminals, were also destroyed at the scene.
Beyond the military gains, the operation achieved a heartwarming humanitarian milestone. As the troops pushed deeper into the dense forest, they discovered and rescued a young girl identified as Halira Ibrahim. Her rescue marks the end of a terrifying ordeal and highlights the commitment of the armed forces to protecting the most vulnerable members of society from the threat of kidnapping.
To ensure the bandits do not return to their former positions, the soldiers systematically destroyed multiple camps and logistics structures across Magaji, Galakaje, Filinga, and Kukatara. By wiping out these life-support hubs, the military has significantly hampered the ability of the remaining terror cells to coordinate future attacks or find safe haven in the area.
