Abia PDP governorship candidate Dr. Kelechi Anosike has thrown his support behind President Bola Tinubu for a second term, stating that the removal of fuel subsidy has boosted revenue to states and improved development across the country.
Speaking through his media unit, Anosike explained that the policy has led to higher federal allocations, helping states clear salary backlogs and fund more projects without relying on bank loans. He, however, stressed that the increased revenue should also deliver direct relief to Nigerians facing the ripple effects of the subsidy removal.
He called on governors to channel part of the gains into welfare programmes that address rising costs of food, transport, healthcare, and education. Anosike proposed a six-point welfare package that includes food and transport subsidies, workers’ support, healthcare and education assistance, as well as youth enterprise development.
According to him, infrastructure alone is not enough if people cannot afford basic needs. He said any government he leads in Abia would combine physical development with programmes that improve the living conditions of residents.
