The business and philanthropic landscape of Osun State is reeling from the loss of a major figure: Prince Tunde Ponle, the Chief Executive Officer of MicCom Cables & Wires. The renowned industrialist and philanthropist reportedly passed away on Sunday at the age of 85. Ponle was famously known for owning the popular golf course located in his hometown, Ada, within the Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State.
Governor Ademola Adeleke yesterday publicly expressed his deep sadness over the passing of the business mogul. In a statement released by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, the Governor commiserated with the family, associates, and countless admirers of the late businessman, describing his demise as “the exit of a giant.”
Governor Adeleke admitted that the pain of Ponle’s death was beyond the capacity of words to truly convey. He noted that the late industrialist had made exceptional and lasting contributions not just to the state’s economy, but far beyond its borders. The CEO of MicCom Cables and Wires, the Governor stressed, lived a thoroughly accomplished life, ensuring that his legacy of positively impacting society would not be easily forgotten.
“I’m visibly shaken to learn about the passing of Chief (Prince) Tunde Laoye,” Governor Adeleke stated in his condolence message. “While alive, Prince Ponle was a model of a good citizen, contributing not just his intellect but his God-given ability to solve some of society’s challenges.”
The Governor highlighted the widespread impact of Ponle’s generosity. Beyond the significant economic boost that his multi-million dollar MicCom golf recreation center provides for the people of Ada, Prince Ponle’s philanthropic hand was heavily felt at the Osun State University (UNIOSUN). His multi-million dollar building donation and the establishment of the MicCom Cancer Centre continue to serve the institution and the wider community.
“His passing, though at 85 years, is devastating, and this is because Osun has lost one of its best,” the Governor added.
Governor Adeleke extended his deepest sympathies, stating, “On behalf of the government and the people of Osun State, I express my heartfelt condolences to Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Titi Laoye-Ponle, children, family and everyone touched by the passing of Prince Ponle.”
He concluded with prayers for eternal rest for the deceased, beseeching Almighty God to grant him an abode in paradise, and asking for divine fortitude for the family left behind to bear this irreplaceable loss.
