Zoyols News

The President of the Accra Institute of Technology, Professor Clement K. Dzidonu, has emphasized that the fast changing world shaped by artificial intelligence, automation, and digital innovation now requires graduates who can think independently, learn continuously, and lead with responsibility.

He explained that the role of universities goes beyond awarding certificates. According to him, higher institutions must focus on shaping individuals who can reason critically, solve problems creatively, adjust to new realities, and make meaningful contributions to society. He reaffirmed that the Accra Institute of Technology remains committed to producing graduates who are not only strong in technical skills but also grounded in ethics, curiosity, and global competitiveness.

His remarks came during the university’s matriculation ceremony held at the Knowledge City Campus in Kokomlemle, Accra, where a new group of students was officially welcomed into the academic community in a lively and colourful event.

Speaking on the theme, Preparing the Sovereign Learner for a World of Opportunity, Possibility and Difference, Professor Dzidonu urged the fresh students to adopt the Opportunity, Possibility, Difference perspective. He encouraged them to identify opportunities around them, explore new possibilities, and use their knowledge to make a positive impact in their communities. He reminded them that true education goes beyond exams and certificates and is more about building character, courage, and competence.

The ceremony marked an important moment for the incoming students as they formally joined a university widely known for its focus on technology driven education, innovation, research, and professional training. The new students are enrolled in various programmes including Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Occupational Health and Safety Management, Project Management, and doctoral studies.

Professor Dzidonu also spoke directly to the students about what he described as the age of the sovereign learner. He explained that success in today’s knowledge based world depends on the ability to keep learning, embrace innovation, and respond effectively to emerging challenges.

He encouraged them to make full use of the opportunities available at the institution by attending lectures regularly, maintaining discipline, managing their time well, and committing to continuous self development. He noted that academic success would depend not only on the university’s support systems but also on the personal determination of each student to excel.

Speaking on behalf of the new students, Mr Samuel Peace Kamara expressed gratitude to the university leadership, faculty, and staff for the warm reception given to the fresh intake. He assured that the students would uphold the values of the institution, pursue academic excellence, and prepare themselves to become responsible professionals capable of contributing positively to society.

The event came to a close with the official admission of the students into the university community, along with a charge for them to embrace the journey ahead with commitment, purpose, and a drive for excellence in all their academic and personal pursuits.
