Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has ordered troops under Joint Task Force North Central, operating as Operation Savannah Shield, to intensify military operations against terrorists, kidnappers and bandits across Kwara State and neighbouring states.
The directive was given during his first official visit to the headquarters of the task force at Sobi Barracks in Ilorin.
Represented by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, the Army Chief charged the troops to sustain pressure on criminal groups threatening peace and security within the region.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the country, stressing that security agencies would continue to pursue those responsible for violent crimes and attacks on communities.
Shaibu also disclosed that more operational support and combat equipment would soon be deployed to strengthen ongoing clearance operations in Kwara and Niger states.
The Army Chief further reminded officers and soldiers of the importance of professionalism and discipline while carrying out their duties. According to him, the welfare of personnel remains a major priority because improved welfare contributes greatly to stronger morale and better performance in the field.
Responding on behalf of the troops, the Theatre Commander of Operation Savannah Shield, Y. Yahaya, appreciated the continued support from the Army leadership and assured that personnel under his command would remain committed to restoring peace and stability across the affected areas.
