Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and National Vice Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Babachir Lawal, has launched a scathing attack on both the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, saying Nigerians are ready to end their dominance in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking while receiving Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, a former governorship candidate of the Action Alliance in Kogi State who recently joined the ADC, Lawal said both major parties have failed the nation, leaving Nigerians with no choice but to seek an alternative.
He mocked the APC, describing it as a “safe refuge for fugitives running from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” adding that many of those now flocking to the ruling party are only seeking protection from corruption charges.
“It is my belief that more patriots will soon join us, even as the PDP self-destructs and the APC turns into a haven for EFCC fugitives,” he declared.
Lawal accused the APC of being delusional and overconfident about its hold on power, alleging that the party had become notorious for manipulating election results. “They live in delusion, believing they can write election results before the people even vote. That era is over. Nigerians will rise and frustrate any attempt to rig the 2027 elections,” he said.
He, however, cautioned that the ADC would not welcome every politician defecting from other parties, noting that the party would guard its principles jealously to avoid being infiltrated by individuals with corrupt and undemocratic tendencies.
According to him, the ADC stands out as a platform for patriots and visionaries who are tired of the direction Nigeria has taken under successive PDP and APC administrations. He said the country is at a breaking point, and the ADC offers Nigerians a genuine opportunity to change course.
“Every patriotic Nigerian knows that we have reached the edge of a cliff. The ADC provides the platform for a national U-turn — a chance to rebuild governance based on justice, service, and accountability,” Lawal stated.
Taking a swipe at the Adamawa State Government, the former SGF accused Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s administration of neglecting the people despite the huge revenue accruing to the state. He said the government had little to show after more than six years in power, apart from “a few flyovers that carry barely any traffic.”
“With all the billions that come into Adamawa, one would expect meaningful projects that touch lives. But sometimes I wonder whether the funds even make it to Yola,” he said.
Lawal reaffirmed that the ADC is determined to offer Nigerians a credible alternative built on integrity, vision, and genuine commitment to national development.
