Aliko Dangote, chairman of the Dangote Group, has publicly claimed that Farouk Ahmed, the CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), spent around $5 million on the education of his children in Switzerland. The revelation appeared in a paid newspaper advert on Thursday.
Dangote alleged that Ahmed’s expenditure covered four children over six years, labeling the act as “economic sabotage and corruption.” He named the children as Faisal Farouk, Farouk Jr., Ashraf Farouk, and Farhana Farouk.
According to Dangote, the children attended prestigious Swiss schools, including Montreux School, Aiglon College, Institut Le Rosey, and La Garenne International School. He outlined the estimated costs, including tuition, living expenses, and air travel.
The annual expenditure per child for tuition, upkeep, and flights was pegged at $200,000, totaling $800,000 for all four children each year. Over six years, Dangote calculated the total spending on living expenses and travel alone at $1.2 million per child, amounting to $4.8 million for the four children combined.
Through the advertisement, Dangote emphasized the scale of the spending, highlighting concerns about accountability and the implications of such high expenditure by a public official.
