A UK-based doctor is currently facing a medical tribunal for allegedly abandoning a patient mid-operation to have a sexual encounter with a nurse. The tribunal heard that Dr. Suhail Anjum, a consultant anaesthetist at Tameside Hospital in Greater Manchester, told a colleague he needed a “comfort break” before leaving the patient under anesthesia.
Instead of returning to the operating room, he went to another theater where he engaged in sexual activity with a nurse, referred to as “Nurse C.” The pair was discovered in a “compromising position” by a “shocked” nurse who quickly reported the incident.
The legal representative for the General Medical Council (GMC), Andrew Molloy, confirmed that despite the doctor’s absence, the patient was unharmed and the procedure was completed without any issues.
Dr. Anjum has admitted to the allegations, calling his actions “shameful.” He told the tribunal, “It was quite shameful, to say the least. I only have myself to blame.” He offered a sincere apology to everyone involved, expressing his desire to “put this right” and explaining that the incident occurred during a “stressful time” for his family. The hearing is set to continue
