Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, CEO of Balmoral Group Promotions, was recently honored with the prestigious Mandela Award for his outstanding contribution to African sports development and youth engagement. The ceremony took place in Bari, Italy, recognizing his dedication to empowering young Nigerians and fostering growth within the continent’s sporting community.
This recognition followed his successful promotion of the “Chaos in the Ring” event in Lagos on Nigeria’s Independence Day, which was hailed as Africa’s biggest boxing event — a testament to his commitment to showcasing African talent on the global stage. Organizers praised Dr. Adamu for his exceptional leadership, vision, and unwavering dedication to the creative and cultural industries.
Accepting the award, Dr. Adamu dedicated it to his team and athletes, highlighting the remarkable potential and spirit of Africa’s youth. He acknowledged that Africa’s dynamic population, with 70 percent under the age of 35, promises a bright future full of champions.
Ndileka Mandela, Nelson Mandela’s eldest grandchild, lauded awardees like Dr. Adamu for continuing her grandfather’s legacy of empowerment and generosity, emphasizing the importance of uplifting others and lighting the way for future generations.
The event also featured calls to harness Africa’s young population through economic empowerment. Adenike Adeyemi, Executive Director of FATE Foundation, emphasized the creative economy’s role in shaping Africa’s global influence, while fashion entrepreneur Taiwo Meghoma reinforced the power of giving back and using one’s gifts to inspire progress.
