A major logistical pipeline supplying deadly weapons to terror networks in the North-West has been disrupted following a successful operation by the Department of State Services.
Security operatives intercepted a suspected arms courier in the Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State. The suspect was caught transporting a heavy cache of weapons intended for a notorious bandit kingpin who has been terrorizing communities across Zamfara State.
The breakthrough was the result of precise, intelligence-driven surveillance. The suspect had loaded the transit shipment in the Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State and was actively moving the cargo toward Funtua in Katsina State. From that transit point, the weapons were scheduled for final delivery into the hands of criminal elements operating in the region.
A search of the suspect’s vehicle yielded a dangerous assortment of military-grade hardware. Operatives recovered three AK-47 rifles, four rocket-propelled grenade tubes along with their corresponding warheads, and two empty ammunition magazines.
During initial questioning, the detained courier admitted to his role in the trafficking ring. He confessed to investigators that he was hired specifically to smuggle the weapons from Jigawa to Katsina, with the promise of a N450,000 payout upon the successful completion of the drop.
This arrest strikes a significant blow against the logistics networks that sustain banditry, mass abductions, and violent attacks across the region. By cutting off the supply of high-caliber weaponry before it reaches the frontlines of these criminal syndicates, security forces are aiming to destabilize the operational capacity of these gangs at the root.
The suspect remains in the custody of the secret police as detectives widen their investigation. Current efforts are focused on unravelling the broader criminal network, identifying the financial backers, and tracking down other collaborators involved in this cross-border arms trafficking ring. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying these targeted operations to completely dismantle the supply chains fueling organized crime across the country.
