A tragedy of unimaginable brutality has shaken the Uhe Quarters in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, where a 49-year-old man, Christian Iboi, stands accused of murdering his 15-year-old son and attempting to conceal the crime by burying the boy’s body within their family compound.
Sources close to the family revealed that the horrifying incident took place over the weekend. It is alleged that the suspect began exhibiting erratic and violent behavior, possibly linked to the consumption of illicit hard drugs. During this episode, Iboi reportedly assaulted his young son with a stick. The severity of the beating ultimately led to the boy’s death.
In a desperate attempt to cover his tracks, the father is said to have dug a shallow grave right there in the compound and interred the corpse.
The Edo State Police Command has since confirmed the incident. In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Eno Ikoedem, the Command detailed the sequence of events that led to the discovery.
“On the 6th of December, 2025, acting on credible information, operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer proceeded to the scene where the information was confirmed,” the statement read. “Preliminary findings reveal that the suspect assaulted his son with a stick on Friday at about 7 p.m. which led to the death of the boy.”
Crucially, the police credit the deceased’s grandmother—who is also the suspect’s 82-year-old mother and a resident of the same household—with providing vital information that enabled the police to act.
Following due administrative procedures, the police exhumed the grave, took photographic evidence of the scene, and successfully recovered the stick allegedly used to commit the offense as a primary exhibit. The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
This deeply disturbing case, underscores the devastating impact of substance abuse coupled with domestic violence within communities.
