Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been taken into the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as part of an ongoing investigation.
The ICPC confirmed the development in a statement released just before midnight on Wednesday. J. Okor Odey, the commission’s Head of Media and Public Communications, stated, “Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, is in our custody in connection with investigations.” The statement did not elaborate on the specifics of the inquiry or how long he might remain in ICPC custody.
This move follows earlier questioning of El-Rufai by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), reportedly linked to alleged financial dealings amounting to N432 billion during his tenure from 2015 to 2023. While the EFCC has not publicly disclosed the details of its inquiry, sources suggest the investigation is part of a wider review of financial transactions and projects carried out under his administration.
Authorities have yet to provide further updates, leaving the focus on ongoing efforts by the ICPC to probe potential irregularities tied to the former governor’s time in office.
