Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has annulled all existing land titles at the Tropicana layout, reaffirming the area’s original master plan. Speaking to correspondents after inspecting the site designated for the ARISE Shopping City in Uyo, Eno warned against encroachments or private acquisitions of government land.
“Although this land has remained unused for years, it has seen numerous encroachments. That is why I stepped in to revoke all titles and activities that deviated from the master plan,” he said.
The governor explained that his initiative is part of a broader vision to establish a world-class tourism ecosystem in the state. This includes completing the previously abandoned 5,000-seat Ibom International Convention Centre, the 200-room Ibom International Hotel, and now the ARISE Shopping City to complement the ecosystem.
“We are building on the foundation laid by previous administrations to ensure Akwa Ibom becomes a top tourist destination. Whether in Uyo, Ikot Abasi, Ikot Ekpene, or Oron, we will harness our cultural, heritage, medical, agricultural, and aviation assets into a comprehensive tourism master plan,” Eno stated.
The ARISE Shopping City is designed to offer tourists an integrated experience with lodging, shopping, and recreational facilities all in one location. “Tourists can enjoy leisure, vacation, and recreation here with top-quality brands, without having to travel to distant expensive venues. That is what ARISE Shopping City represents,” he said.
Governor Eno revealed that the project is set for completion within 12 months and emphasized that the state’s existing road network and peaceful environment will attract significant tourism and investment once the facilities are operational.
“We will not allow anyone, no matter their status, to disrupt the peace and progress of Akwa Ibom State,” he added, reinforcing his commitment to safeguarding the state’s development plans.
