Hon. Ugo-Ferdinand Ukwueze has shared his thoughts on the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses in Enugu State, describing the exercise as a significant win for internal democracy. As the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area and Deputy Chairman of ALGON in the state, Ukwueze noted that the orderly conduct of the ward, local government, and state elections proves that the party is more united than ever.
The congresses, which took place across all 260 political wards and 17 local government areas, were seen as a litmus test for the party’s stability. Speaking with journalists in Enugu on Wednesday, Ukwueze remarked that the transparency of the process has sent a clear message. According to him, the smooth transition and lack of intimidation show that members are fully aligned with the vision of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah as the leader of the party in the state.
Zoyols reports that the ALGON leader was particularly impressed by the work of the various congress committees. He pointed out that the professionalism shown by coordinators like Dr. Lucky Ógbè, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, and Hon. Loveth Idisi ensured the results were widely accepted. He also took a moment to acknowledge the outgoing Caretaker Committee led by Dr. Ben Nwoye, praising them for setting the stage for such a seamless transition.
Beyond the logistics, Ukwueze emphasized that these congresses have successfully produced a new crop of credible leaders at the grassroots and state levels. He specifically congratulated the newly emerged state leadership headed by Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, calling the process historic and credible. To him, the quality of leadership now in place is exactly what the party needs to stay focused as they look toward future challenges.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the chairman expressed strong optimism. He mentioned that the party is already shifting its focus toward mobilizing massive support, with a goal of delivering nearly total votes for both Governor Mbah’s re-election and President Bola Tinubu. For Ukwueze, the success of these congresses is just the beginning of a larger strategy to reposition the APC for overwhelming victories across Enugu State.
