Governor Dauda Lawal has urged Muslims and Christians in Zamfara to continue living in peace and mutual respect, saying that unity between both faiths is vital for the state’s growth and stability.
He made the appeal at the Government House in Gusau while receiving the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria and heads of various Christian denominations who visited to express appreciation for his administration’s fairness and inclusiveness.
Governor Lawal commended the CAN Chairman, Evangelist Jibril Afolabi, and other Christian leaders for their visit, describing it as a gesture that strengthens trust and goodwill among the people. He assured them that his government remains committed to the welfare of all citizens, regardless of religion or background.
Reflecting on a land dispute in the Tudun Wada area of Gusau that had lingered for more than three decades, the governor recalled how a church was denied access to a parcel of land it had purchased for a school and a place of worship. He said his administration stepped in to resolve the matter by acquiring the land for the construction of public schools to serve both Christians and Muslims.
Lawal noted that God created diversity for a reason and called on residents to appreciate their differences and work together to build a peaceful society.
Speaking earlier, Evangelist Afolabi and Pastor Umoru Emmanuel of Living Faith Church praised the governor for handling the long-standing dispute with fairness and wisdom. They described him as a true leader who treats everyone with dignity and without bias.
The visit ended with the presentation of an Ambassador of Peace Award to Governor Lawal by the CAN leadership in recognition of his commitment to promoting religious harmony and peaceful coexistence in Zamfara State.
