A violent night in Akure has left a local farmer hospitalized and his wife in the hands of kidnappers, sparking fresh security concerns in the Ondo State capital. The incident, which took place on Wednesday night around 8:45 p.m., targeted the residence of a tomato farmer identified as Mr. Adesida Daniel in the Isagba community, situated along Oda Road.
According to a statement obtained by Reports from the state police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the attackers invaded the home under the cover of darkness. In a desperate attempt to protect his family and resist the intruders, Mr. Daniel was shot in his right hand. While the gunmen managed to abduct his wife and flee the scene, the injured farmer was later rescued by police operatives who responded to a distress call.
The police command confirmed that the victim was immediately rushed to a police clinic for medical treatment, where he is currently recovering. In the wake of the attack, the State Commissioner of Police has ordered a massive security sweep of the area. This includes intensified patrols, intelligence gathering, and an extensive search of the surrounding bushes and neighboring communities to track down the fleeing suspects.
While condemning the act, the police authorities assured residents that every available resource is being deployed to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice and the victim is safely reunited with her family. Reports also gathered that the command is appealing to members of the public to stay alert and report any unusual activities or suspicious individuals to the nearest security post.
