The D’BusinessDoctor (DBD) Mentorship Academy, in collaboration with KB Klub, College of Medicine, University of Lagos (UNILAG), has successfully graduated a new batch of young healthcare professionals trained to combine clinical excellence with business intelligence. The 12-week intensive program, designed to equip medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and other health workers with leadership, management, and entrepreneurial skills, has marked a significant milestone in the nation’s healthcare sector.
The academy’s founder, Dr. Ademolu Owoyele, expressed confidence in the resilience and creativity of the new graduates, noting that their commitment to growth reflects the academy’s vision of raising professionals who not only heal but also build. Dr. Owoyele’s vision is to inspire innovation in Nigeria’s health system by opening the eyes of young healthcare professionals to the business side of medicine.
A Partnership for Excellence
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has been a key partner in the academy’s journey. Dr. Benjamin Olowojebutu, National Vice President of the NMA, congratulated the graduates and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to nurturing leaders who combine clinical excellence with business acumen to drive innovation and strengthen the nation’s health sector.
The Importance of Business Intelligence in Healthcare
Mr. Biodun Oke, an investment banker and Director of Group Sales at Vetiva Asset Management, emphasized the importance of financial intelligence, resilience, and entrepreneurial vision in improving health systems. “Doctors and healthcare professionals must learn to think like business leaders if they want to transform the sector,” he said. This message resonated with the graduates, who have been equipped with the skills and knowledge to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare industry.
A Transformative Experience
One of the graduates, Amari Moyinoluwa, described the mentorship as a transformative experience, explaining that it challenged her to think bigger, work smarter, and step outside her comfort zone. The graduating class, known as “DBD Trailbld Trailblazers,” received certificates of completion, with Bolaji Ogunyade honoured with the Most Outstanding Leader Award.
The D’BusinessDoctor Academy has trained healthcare professionals to think strategically, lead effectively, and build sustainable enterprises since its inception in 2017. With its innovative approach, the academy is shaping the future of Nigeria’s health sector.
