Nollywood veteran Ireti Doyle has opened up about a surprising chapter in her life: her fear of dogs. Growing up, she recalls being terrified of both big and small dogs, often going out of her way to avoid them entirely.
It took a decade of persistent requests and careful negotiations for her daughter to finally bring a puppy into their home. Remarkably, before the year was out, Ireti had welcomed another dog, turning her initial apprehension into full-fledged love for her pets. Today, she proudly counts a Cane Corso and a German Shepherd among her closest companions.
“Growing up, I was scared witless of dogs. Big, small, it didn’t matter. I would gladly take a long, convoluted path just to avoid a dog. It took ten years of begging and negotiations for my daughter to get a puppy… within the same year, we got another – at my instance. Today, not only am I a bona fide dog lover/owner, I’m really good friends with a Cane Corso and a German Shepherd. Who says change is impossible?” she shared.
Alongside her reflections on her newfound love for dogs, Ireti also wished her fans well for the year ahead, hoping 2026 treats everyone kindly.
Earlier this year, Ireti had spoken about the growing toxicity of social media, explaining her temporary break from online platforms to protect her “quiet soul.” She has also shared glimpses of her Nollywood journey, describing it as “diverse and colourful,” and recounted a frightening incident last year when she nearly succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning, a reminder of life’s fragility.
