The Department of State Services has raised a red flag over plans by the Islamic State of West Africa Province to launch attacks on several communities in Ondo and Kogi states. According to a confidential memo, the terrorists are set to strike soon, with Eriti Akoko, Oyin Akoko, and Owo town listed as potential targets.
The DSS, in the memo addressed to the Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, Owena Cantonment, Akure, warned that ISWAP has begun surveillance of soft targets in the affected areas. The secret service is calling on the military to step up security operations to prevent any attack.
Credible intelligence suggests the insurgents are planning coordinated assaults on the communities, and the level of security alertness needs to be immediately scaled up to prevent loss of lives and property. The DSS memo, signed by Hi Kana, Director of Security, DSS Ondo State Command, urges vigilance and heightened security measures to forestall any attack.
The identified communities, including Eriti Akoko and Oyin Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, as well as Owo town in Owo Local Government Area, are advised to be extra cautious as security agencies work to prevent any potential attacks.
