King Mohammed VI has voiced strong support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to rebuild Gaza and called for a meaningful peace process in the Middle East. The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates confirmed the King’s position on Thursday.
Represented at the inaugural meeting of the US-led Board of Peace in Washington, D.C. by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Morocco emphasized its commitment to Gaza’s reconstruction, focusing on security, healthcare, and the promotion of tolerance and coexistence. Bourita highlighted that Trump’s plan has already achieved a ceasefire, ended ongoing hostilities, and laid out a forward-looking strategy for rebuilding the region.
Under the King’s directives, Morocco will support the Board of Peace’s efforts in Gaza while ensuring Phase II of Trump’s plan is fully implemented. Bourita stressed the importance of maintaining stability in the West Bank and reinforcing Palestinians’ governance through their legitimate institutions. Stabilization and reconstruction, he said, are essential for launching a genuine peace process based on the two-state solution.
The Board of Peace’s inaugural meeting brought together nearly fifty countries, including U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and multiple heads of state and foreign ministers. King Mohammed VI had previously accepted President Trump’s invitation to become a founding member of the Board, a select forum for internationally recognized leaders dedicated to advancing long-term peace and security.
As Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the King continues to advocate for the protection of Jerusalem’s religious and cultural heritage amid ongoing tensions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His participation in the Board of Peace underscores Morocco’s role in promoting stability and a sustainable path to coexistence in the region.
