Nollywood star Mercy Johnson Okojie has broken her silence following her appointment as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo. On her Instagram, she expressed heartfelt gratitude for the trust placed in her, describing the role as more than a position—it’s a responsibility to connect with citizens, listen, and advocate with purpose.
“Being appointed to this role is not just a call to serve; it’s a call to connect, to listen, and to advocate with purpose,” Mercy wrote. “I accept this responsibility with humility, dedication, and an unshakable commitment to service. I am fully aligned with His Excellency’s SHINE Agenda of responsive governance and sustainable development. To the people of Edo State: this role is about you—your voices, your stories, and your participation in governance. Together, we will deepen civic engagement, strengthen trust, and advance a people-centred Edo where every voice truly counts.”
Mercy Johnson’s political involvement isn’t new. Two years ago, she faced backlash for campaigning for Governor Okpebholo during his election, encouraging women to speak with their families about supporting him. In 2023, she also publicly endorsed Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term, praising his achievements. That same year, she actively campaigned for her husband during the House of Representatives election, celebrating his victory and demonstrating her steadfast support.
Through her new appointment, Mercy Johnson now steps into a role that merges her public influence with civic responsibility, aiming to ensure the people of Edo State are heard and engaged in shaping their community’s future.
