Nigeria’s men’s volleyball team will face Algeria and Chad in Group C at the 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Nations Championship in Tunisia.
The championship gets underway on September 15 and will also serve as a qualification tournament for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, giving the Nigerian team an important opportunity to push for a place at the global event.
Nigeria head coach Ryan Masajedi said the immediate objective is to get through the group stage and build momentum as the competition progresses.
The Japanese coach cautioned his players against underestimating either Algeria or Chad, noting that every team at the championship will be determined to make an impact.
Masajedi said the players are aware of what is at stake and will approach each match with the necessary focus.
He explained that the first priority is to secure qualification from the group before turning attention to the next stage and the challenge that awaits them.
The coach also called on Nigerians to support the team and pray for its success as the players begin their campaign in Tunisia.
Nigeria last competed at the African Men’s Volleyball Nations Championship in 2021, finishing seventh in Rwanda. The team secured the position after defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo 3 0 in the classification match, winning 25 10, 25 20 and 25 22.
Nigeria was absent from the 2023 edition of the championship and will now return to the continental competition with hopes of making a stronger impression.
