Nigeria is set to witness a major shift in its energy retail sector as Auwalu Abdullahi Rano (AAR) Nigeria Limited rolls out the country’s first 24-hour unmanned fuel stations. This innovative move, led by the company’s founder, Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, aims to modernize the refueling experience by introducing fully automated outlets that operate without the need for traditional pump attendants.
These next-generation stations are powered by smart pumping technology and high-end digital systems. The setup allows motorists and motorcyclists to pull in, dispense their own fuel, and complete their payments instantly using digital platforms. This self-service model is part of a strategic partnership with Petrosoft Limited, a Nigerian tech firm that specializes in advanced management systems for the oil and gas industry.
The rollout is quite ambitious, with Petrosoft set to deploy this automated technology across A.A. Rano’s extensive network of 200 retail outlets. The reach extends far beyond major cities, covering border communities near Niger, Chad, Benin, and Cameroon. The first set of these digital stations is expected to go live within January 2026, offering around-the-clock service that fits the busy schedules of modern commuters.
Alhaji Rano highlighted that this transition is about more than just convenience. By removing human intervention at the pump, the technology significantly reduces the time spent at stations and improves overall transparency. Customers can feel more confident knowing they are receiving the exact volume of fuel they paid for, as the digital sensors eliminate the risk of manual errors or under-dispensing.
Adding a perspective on the technical side, Dr. Joshua Denila, the CEO of Petrosoft Limited, noted that this project is a proud example of what homegrown Nigerian technology can achieve. He emphasized that their systems are built to meet international standards, proving that local solutions can effectively tackle complex market challenges. As these unmanned stations become a common sight, they are expected to set a new benchmark for efficiency across the country’s fueling depots and retail points.
