Nigeria’s 2027 general elections are shaping up to be the most competitive and intense in the country’s history, according to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Kwankwaso believes that Nigerians have become more politically aware and are now paying closer attention to the choices they make at the polls.
The former Kano State governor attributes this growing awareness to the widespread influence of radio and social media, which have empowered citizens with access to information. “Thanks to radio and social media, the masses now know more,” Kwankwaso said. “You may see things that have never happened before in Nigeria’s electoral history.”
Kwankwaso’s comments suggest that Nigerians are no longer willing to exchange their votes for money, instead seeking genuine change and leaders who can rescue the nation from insecurity, poverty, and poor governance. “People are now more informed, more concerned, and more involved,” he noted. “Everyone is seeking a way out because of the country’s current situation.”
With this shift in mindset, Kwankwaso predicts that the 2027 elections will be fiercely contested, with citizens demanding real leadership and accountability from their leaders. The NNPP, under Kwankwaso’s leadership, is positioning itself as a formidable force, capable of influencing Nigeria’s future and shaping the nation’s governance direction.
In fact, Kwankwaso has hinted at potential alliances with other influential political figures and parties, including the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, provided such partnerships prioritize the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. “We’re ready for anyone,” he said, “but whoever we work with must show competence and integrity. The common man must benefit, youths must receive proper education, and security must be restored.”
As the 2027 elections draw near, one thing is certain – Nigeria’s political landscape is about to get a lot more interesting
