The former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, joined a host of distinguished guests to mark the highly revered 2025 Ofala Festival of the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe (Agbogidi). He lauded the annual ceremony as an enduring emblem of the community’s unity, culture, and journey toward progress.

In a message shared on his official social media platform, Obi expressed his profound appreciation for the opportunity to partake in the vibrant celebration held in Onitsha, Anambra State. He acknowledged the Ofala Festival as one of Nigeria’s most treasured traditional gatherings, a spectacular moment when the people come together to pay homage to their respected monarch, showcase their rich heritage, and offer gratitude for the peace and prosperity of the land.

Reflecting on his deep, long-standing ties to the community, the former Governor recalled attending the colourful spectacle countless times since his secondary school days at Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha. “It was truly heartwarming to behold the vibrant display of tradition that has stood the test of time and continues to define the identity of our people,” Obi remarked.

The annual Ofala Festival, a tradition that spans centuries, is fundamentally a renewal ceremony. It signifies the spiritual rejuvenation of the Onitsha Kingdom and marks the reaffirmation of the Obi’s authority over his people.

Obi took the opportunity to commend His Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, for his exemplary statesmanship. He praised the monarch’s wisdom and unwavering commitment to preserving the cherished cultural heritage of Onitsha while fostering a powerful sense of unity among the populace. “His reign continues to inspire a sense of unity and progress among the people,” Obi added, extending his prayers for the King’s continued long life, wisdom, and good health.

Finally, the former Governor extended his warmest wishes to all Onitsha indigenes, both at home and in the diaspora, urging them to remain dedicated to promoting and celebrating the rich cultural values of their homeland.
