The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully dismantled a suspected organ-harvesting syndicate, arresting a key member and rescuing three victims who were allegedly lured with chilling promises of receiving N2 million each in exchange for their kidneys.
The development was made public during a press briefing held on Tuesday in Lafia by the State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Maro Ebojoh, a 49-year-old man who hails from Delta State. He was apprehended on November 17, 2025, at the Alhaji Yahaya Sabo Motor Park in Lafia.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the Command revealed that Ebojoh was actively involved in sourcing potential organ donors and preparing them for illegal kidney transplants. The Commissioner disclosed that the suspect had reportedly taken the victims to a hospital for medical evaluation. Alarmingly, one of the victims had already been moved to Abuja in preparation for the planned surgical procedure before the police intervention.
Acting swiftly, operatives tracked down the victim in Abuja, where he was being kept in a hotel while his blood pressure was being stabilized ahead of the intended surgery. The police were able to rescue him before the horrific procedure could take place.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the illicit trade. He revealed that he had received an advance payment of N500,000 from a client, with an agreed total fee of N6.5 million for the illegal organ procurement.
Furthermore, Ebojoh confessed to successfully procuring a kidney donor for a different client just two months prior. In that case, he received N1 million for his role, while the donor was paid N2.5 million.
The Commissioner of Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and intensified efforts are being made to track down and apprehend all other members of the organ harvesting ring.
