Oyo 2027: Governor Makinde Begins Search for His Successor

Zoyols News

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially set the wheels in motion for the 2027 transition process, revealing that a deliberate search for his successor is currently underway. The Governor confirmed that high-level discussions are being held with a group of credible individuals to ensure the state’s leadership remains in capable hands once his tenure concludes.

During a recent briefing, Makinde emphasized that this structured approach is designed to protect the progress his administration has achieved while securing a stable future for the state.  The Governor has formally tasked his advisory council, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Bolaji Ayorinde, with the responsibility of screening and engaging potential candidates from within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The council’s mandate is to interact with all governorship aspirants on the PDP platform and provide expert recommendations. This move is part of the broader “Omituntun 3.0” vision, aimed at maintaining the momentum of the current government. By involving the advisory council, Makinde intends to create a level playing field where every aspirant has a fair opportunity to present their vision and plans for the people of Oyo State.

Several prominent figures have already emerged as potential contenders in this high-stakes selection process. Among those being considered are Adedeji Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo, who currently represents Ibadan South-West/North-East in the House of Representatives, and Nureni Adeniran, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board.

The list of aspirants also includes former Commissioner for Finance Bimbo Adekanmbi, as well as Debo Akande, the state Chairman of the Agribusiness Development Agency. Even the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, is reportedly being considered as part of this diverse pool of talent. Governor Makinde has promised to communicate his final decision in due course, once the evaluation process is fully concluded.
