In a significant turn of events, Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, finally presented himself at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti on Tuesday. The cleric’s arrival at the Yaba-based office follows an initial refusal to honor a police summons earlier on Monday. , the change of heart came after several high-profile individuals warned him of the severe legal consequences of ignoring a formal invitation.
The investigation into the preacher’s conduct stems from a wave of serious allegations involving several women, including former lovers and church members. These accusations range from sexual impropriety and abuse of authority to even more grave claims. The situation gained public attention largely due to his ongoing legal battle with his estranged partner, actress Doris Ogalla. Sources suggest that Okafor initially believed he could skip the SCID invitation because he had already initiated a separate case at the AIG Zone 2 Command in Onikan, where Ogalla was previously detained.
A senior police officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, clarified that while Okafor’s statement was officially taken, he was not detained. The officer explained that because a related investigation is already active at Zone 2 involving a specific complainant and suspect, the Lagos State Command would temporarily step back to avoid a conflict of interests. However, the officer emphasized that the police are actively encouraging other victims to come forward and have even offered protection and logistics to anyone willing to testify.
Despite these efforts, the authorities noted that no new complainants have appeared at the SCID yet. This lack of immediate witnesses is the primary reason the pastor was allowed to leave after his interrogation. The police clarified that they are not dismissing the allegations but are essentially standing down to allow the Zone 2 team to conclude their findings.
SP Abimbola Adebisi, the spokesperson for the police command, confirmed the pastor’s presence at the station on Tuesday afternoon but remained tight-lipped regarding specific details of the questioning. The invitation, originally dated January 3, had ordered Okafor to appear by Monday morning, a deadline he notably missed before his eventual submission. For now, the public eye remains fixed on the legal proceedings as more details regarding the various allegations continue to surface.
