President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted a significant meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, receiving the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja. The high-profile visit brought together the nation’s leader and the Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas for a private discussion at Aso Rock.

The news of the gathering was shared by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who released images of the two leaders engaged in what appeared to be a very warm and cordial conversation. While the specific details of their closed-door talk have not yet been officially released, the visit follows a series of high-level engagements by the monarch in the nation’s capital.

Just a day prior to meeting the President, the Olubadan held talks with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. During that session, the Federal Government sent a reassuring message to the people of Oyo State regarding the persistent ecological issues plagueing Ibadan. Senator Akume specifically addressed the recurring problem of flooding in the ancient city, promising that the government remains committed to finding a lasting solution to these environmental threats.

Senator Akume was full of praise for Oba Ladoja’s proactive approach to leadership. He noted that the monarch’s decision to personally engage with federal authorities to advocate for his people is a clear sign of selfless service. Akume, who spoke fondly of his own ties to the city, described Ibadan as a peaceful and welcoming home for all Nigerians and a vital hub of the nation’s academic and cultural history.

The SGF further acknowledged the Olubadan’s long-standing track record in both the private sector and public service. He expressed strong confidence that under the monarch’s reign, Ibadanland would continue to see significant progress. The recent string of meetings at the highest levels of government suggests a strengthening partnership aimed at tackling the immediate needs of one of Nigeria’s most historic cities.
