The Nigerian film industry is currently shrouded in grief as popular Nollywood actor Rotimi Salami finally spoke out following the devastating loss of his close friend and colleague, Allwell Ademola. In a deeply personal message shared on his social media, Salami described the last few days as “72 hours of endless tears,” a raw testament to the void left by the actress’s sudden passing.
Reports gathered that the beloved Yoruba film star passed away on Saturday night at the age of 43. Sources close to the family revealed that she suffered a heart attack at her home and was rushed to the hospital, where she eventually breathed her last. Since the news broke, fans have been in a state of shock, many of whom flooded Salami’s social media pages desperate for answers and comfort.
Breaking his silence, Rotimi Salami expressed deep gratitude to those who have checked on his mental health and well-being through calls and messages. However, he admitted that he is currently too drained to offer much of a response. He shared that while he is struggling to process the reality that his “Shuga Boo” is gone, he is trying to find the strength to move forward for the sake of his children, family, and the supporters who have stood by him during this dark time.
The bond between Rotimi and Allwell was legendary within the industry, often sparking rumors that the two were romantically involved. Salami had previously clarified that their relationship was rooted in deep mentorship and friendship. He once recalled how Allwell was instrumental in his career, introducing him to influential figures like Ronke Odusanya and guiding him during his early days as a creator.
Their public interactions were always filled with warmth and mutual respect. From celebrating birthdays with glowing tributes to defending one another against online gossip, their connection was a rare example of Hollywood’s “best friend” goals. Allwell had recently celebrated Rotimi’s birthday by expressing how proud she was of the man he had become, while he, in turn, often publicly thanked her for “fighting for him and with him.”
As the industry mourns, Salami has made a touching request to his friends and well-wishers. He asked that when people see him in person, they should refrain from trying to console him, as he is still too fragile to talk about the loss without breaking down. For now, the actor says he simply cannot bring himself to say a final farewell to the woman he affectionately called his “Ibiayo” and “Eniobanke.”
