Seyi Makinde Breaks Silence on Alleged Plot to Oust Oyo Speaker

Zoyols News

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has moved to clear the air following intense speculations regarding a purported plot to impeach the Speaker of the State House of Assembly. The rumors, which had gained significant traction in political circles, suggested a deepening rift within the legislative arm that required the governor’s immediate attention.

The tension reportedly reached a boiling point during a closed-door meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus. What was expected to be a standard legislative briefing reportedly turned into a heated confrontation. The session was marked by sharp divisions among lawmakers, exposing cracks within the ruling party and sparking fears about the stability of the Assembly’s leadership.

Inside sources revealed that the legislators had split into two distinct camps. While one group strongly resisted what they described as an unjustified attempt to unseat the Speaker, another faction was allegedly aligned with influential figures pushing for a change in leadership. Some lawmakers claimed the move was a calculated attempt to force a resignation based on allegations they described as politically motivated and unsubstantiated.

The unfolding drama caused considerable unease across Ibadan, with many observers worried that the internal power struggle could lead to a constitutional impasse. As the speculation intensified, calls grew for Governor Makinde to step in as a mediator to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control and affecting the governance of the state.

In response to the growing unrest, the governor convened an emergency meeting with the lawmakers to address the grievances directly. Multiple sources with direct knowledge of the discussion confirmed to Zoyols News that the intervention was highly effective. The meeting served as a platform to de-escalate the situation and restore a sense of order among the party members.

One source familiar with the outcome stated that the governor made his stance very clear, which effectively put an end to the impeachment talks. Another official confirmed that the matter has been fully resolved, noting that unity has returned to the House. With this intervention, the rumored leadership crisis appears to have been averted, allowing the state’s legislative business to proceed without further distraction.
