The Nigerian Super Eagles are making their final move toward the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as they depart their training base in Cairo, Egypt, for Fez, Morocco. The team has been camping in the Egyptian capital since Sunday, using the time to fine-tune their tactics and build chemistry under the watchful eye of head coach Eric Chelle. With the tournament just around the corner, the shift to Moroccan soil marks the beginning of the final phase of their preparations.
Fans of the three-time African champions will be pleased to know that the squad is now at full strength. The camp became complete on Wednesday night following the arrival of star striker Victor Osimhen. With all 28 invited players now present and accounted for, the coaching staff can focus on the full tactical implementation needed to navigate a challenging group stage.
While the energy in the camp remains high, the team did face a slight setback during their stay in Egypt. The Super Eagles took on the Pharaohs of Egypt in a high-profile friendly at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday night, ultimately falling to a 2-1 defeat. Despite the loss, the match provided crucial insights for the technical crew, highlighting areas that need adjustment before the real action kicks off in Morocco.
Upon their arrival in Fez, the team will resume intensive training sessions to acclimatize to the local conditions. The Super Eagles are scheduled to play all their group matches at the impressive Grand Stade de Fèz, a venue that is expected to host thousands of traveling Nigerian supporters. The focus is now entirely on their opening fixture against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, which is set for next Tuesday.
The road ahead is demanding, as Nigeria looks to secure a strong start in Group D. Following their opener against Tanzania, the team will face the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on December 27, before wrapping up the group stage against the Cranes of Uganda on December 30.
