A dark cloud hung over the Badagry area on Tuesday morning following a horrific road accident that claimed the lives of three people. The incident, which occurred at the busy Badagry Roundabout around 9:46 a.m., involved a heavy-duty Dangote truck that reportedly lost control and plowed into commercial motorcyclists operating in the vicinity.
Among those who lost their lives in the tragic crash was an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) who was performing his official duties at the time. According to eyewitness accounts gathered by Reports, the truck was traveling from the Lagos end of the motorway toward the Seme axis when the driver suddenly lost grip of the vehicle, crushing two motorcycles and their occupants instantly.
The scene was one of total devastation as the impact left the motorcycles mangled beyond recognition. The news of the officer’s death and the other victims sent shockwaves through the community, drawing a large crowd of onlookers and sympathizers.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, arrived quickly to manage the chaotic situation. Working alongside surviving LASTMA officials, they cordoned off the area to prevent further accidents and worked tirelessly to clear the resulting traffic gridlock.
The bodies of the deceased have since been evacuated from the scene by the relevant authorities. While the area has been stabilized and normalcy restored to the roadway, security agencies are currently conducting a thorough investigation to pinpoint the exact cause of the mechanical failure or driver error that led to this loss of life.
