Tragedy struck the Rim community in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday night as gunmen launched a violent assault that left two people dead and others fighting for their lives. The attackers reportedly stormed the village at approximately 10:30 pm, catching residents off guard with a barrage of gunfire that lasted several minutes.
According to reports from local sources, the gunmen fired indiscriminately into the community before disappearing into the surrounding bushes under the cover of darkness. In the chaos that followed, two victims were confirmed dead on the spot, while two others who sustained serious injuries were quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the heartbreaking incident during a briefing in Jos. He described how the suddenness of the attack threw the entire village into a state of intense panic. Tengwong noted that this latest violence is yet another painful chapter in the ongoing security challenges facing Riyom and various other communities across Plateau State.
Community leaders are once again calling on security agencies to take more decisive action to protect vulnerable areas. There is a growing plea for intensified patrols and a more proactive approach to tracking down those responsible for these recurring attacks to ensure they are brought to justice.
As of the time of this report, official comments from the Plateau State Police Command were still pending. Efforts to reach the command’s spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, to get an update on the investigation and any potential arrests were not successful.
