Upholding Peace: China’s Message to the World

Zoyols Blog
The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has issued a poignant reminder to the international community to uphold the principles of the United Nations and resist the tide of unilateralism. This call to action was made during a solemn event in Abuja, where the film “Dead to Rights” was screened to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The film, which dramatizes the 1937 Nanjing Massacre, serves as a stark reminder of the atrocities committed during World War II. Yu Dunhai described the massacre, in which Japanese forces brutally killed over 300,000 civilians and soldiers, as “one of the darkest chapters in modern world history.” He emphasized that remembering this tragic event is crucial in ensuring that such horrors are never repeated.
During the 14-year resistance against Japanese aggression, China suffered immense losses, with over 35 million people killed or injured. The Ambassador highlighted China’s significant contributions to the Allied victory and the restoration of world peace. He stressed that the anniversary is not only a time for mourning but also an opportunity to reaffirm commitments to peace and strengthen international cooperation.
Yu Dunhai warned against the dangers of historical revisionism and global instability, emphasizing the need for the international community to remain committed to the UN’s principles. He urged nations to cherish peace, protect it, and work together to build a brighter future. The Ambassador’s words serve as a timely reminder of the importance of preserving the hard-won outcomes of World War II and upholding the international order based on the UN Charter.
As the world navigates complex global challenges, Yu Dunhai’s message resonates with profound significance. He called on nations to reaffirm their commitment to the international system, with the UN at its core, and to strive for a future defined by greater fairness, justice, and equality for all. By honoring the sacrifices of the past, the international community can work together to build a more peaceful and prosperous world.
