Veekee James Sparks Backlash by Sharing Baby Registry Online

zoyolsblog

Nigerian fashion and celebrity designer Veekee James has found herself at the center of social media debate after making her baby registry public. The designer, who announced she is expecting her first child with a heartfelt video cradling her baby bump alongside her husband, sparked mixed reactions with the move.

For those unfamiliar, a baby registry is an online wish list where expectant parents list items they need for their newborn. It helps friends and family purchase gifts while avoiding duplicates or unwanted items. Veekee’s decision to open her registry to the public, allowing her millions of fans and followers to contribute, quickly ignited a conversation online.

Reactions have been polarizing. Some fans expressed excitement at the opportunity to celebrate with her and buy gifts, while others criticized the move as tone-deaf, arguing that, as a successful entrepreneur surrounded by wealthy friends and celebrity connections, she did not need public contributions.

Social media users weighed in with strong opinions. Some called it “audacity” and accused her of “turning her life into a sponsored ad.” Others defended her, noting that she isn’t forcing anyone to participate, pointing out that baby registries are common practice even among international celebrities.

Ahead of her baby’s arrival, Veekee and her husband celebrated with an intimate reveal party in Dubai, dressed in coordinated white outfits. The couple shared the joyous news that they are expecting a girl. Earlier clips had captured the emotional moment the designer discovered she was pregnant, breaking down in tears as she held onto her husband after the positive test result.

Veekee tied the knot with Femi Atere on February 10, 2024, in a ceremony that drew significant celebrity attention, including Juliana Olayode, Eniola Ajao, Osas Ighodaro, Toke Makinwa, Priscilla Ojo, Pretty Mike, and others. The wedding was widely talked about online, especially for its extravagant choir of 200 members, but it also attracted criticism from some quarters who felt it was excessive.

Despite the social media storm surrounding both her wedding and her baby registry, Veekee appears to be embracing this new chapter with joy and excitement, sharing her journey openly while celebrating the upcoming arrival of her daughter.
