Mr John Nwosu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election, has announced his support for Peter Obi’s presidential ambitions should Obi formally declare his intention to run. Nwosu shared this during an interaction with reporters in Awka, emphasizing his respect for Obi’s contributions to Nigerian politics and his alignment with good governance, fairness, and public welfare.
He stated that leadership decisions should be guided by vision, credibility, and the will of the people rather than political speculation. Nwosu added that any political alliance must reflect shared values and tangible benefits for Nigerians, rather than merely serving electoral calculations. “As opposition, our responsibility is to hold the government accountable, mobilize citizens, and ensure that every Nigerian vote counts,” he said.
Reflecting on his own gubernatorial bid, Nwosu said he has no regrets about contesting, despite finishing fifth. He emphasized that he accepts the election outcome in line with his party’s position and is prepared to play an active opposition role in the state. His loyalty, he said, has always been to the people and progress of Anambra rather than personal ambition.
Nwosu also spoke about security, highlighting that it should never be politicized. Drawing from his hi-tech background, he called for the use of technology, data intelligence, and modern surveillance systems to strengthen existing security efforts. “My approach will be collaborative, not confrontational. I am ready to share insights, support initiatives that improve safety, protect lives, and restore confidence across Anambra. When it comes to security, there is no ruling party or opposition, only a shared duty to serve and protect our people,” he noted.
On the recent life sentence handed to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nwosu expressed deep concern. He urged the Federal Government to revisit the matter, saying, “I received the news with a heavy heart. No responsible leader celebrates a citizen being condemned to spend life in prison. While the government must uphold the rule of law and ensure national security, justice must also reflect fairness, equity, and the political realities of our diverse nation. A purely punitive approach, without an inclusive political response, risks deepening mistrust and further dividing the nation.”
Through these statements, Nwosu positioned himself as a principled opposition leader ready to contribute ideas, uphold accountability, and support initiatives that strengthen governance, security, and national cohesion in Anambra and across Nigeria.
