Aborisade Calls for Unity Ahead of PDP National Convention

Chief Niyi Aborisade, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party, has urged party leaders, delegates, and stakeholders to embrace restraint, discipline, and unity as the party prepares for its national convention this Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The opposition party has faced weeks of internal tensions and conflicting court rulings, but delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to converge for a two-day convention. Discussions will focus on party leadership, internal reforms, and strategic positioning ahead of future elections.

Aborisade, a governorship aspirant and human rights lawyer, described the convention as a pivotal moment for the PDP, warning that personal ambitions should not overshadow the need for cohesion. He stressed that the event would test the party’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and due process values critical to regaining public trust.

He highlighted that the conduct and outcomes of the convention would shape public perception of the PDP and its credibility as a national alternative. “This convention comes at a sensitive time, with internal disagreements and differing positions among key stakeholders creating tension,” he said. “It is not just a routine political exercise but a defining moment that will influence the party’s internal unity and long-term relevance.”

Aborisade called on all members national, state, and ward levels to prioritize the party’s collective interest over narrow political ambitions. He emphasized that the exercise should serve as an opportunity for reconciliation and institutional strengthening rather than deepening divisions.

He concluded by appealing to party elders, leaders, youth representatives, and delegates to approach the convention with calmness, responsibility, and a shared commitment to the PDP’s enduring stability and capacity to provide credible leadership in Nigeria’s political landscape.
