The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 57 suspects in a wide ranging operation targeting Shilla gang activities, drug abuse, public disturbance and other related crimes across parts of the state.
The coordinated exercise was carried out under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Umar Hassan, and focused on identified criminal hideouts within Jimeta and Yola metropolis.
According to a statement issued by the command spokesperson, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the operation was executed by divisional police officers working alongside area commanders, leading to the arrest of individuals linked to Shilla related violence, unlawful possession of weapons and involvement with prohibited substances.
He explained that various dangerous weapons and suspected illegal substances were recovered during the raids. All items seized have been properly documented and will be presented as evidence in court during prosecution.
The command further disclosed that the suspects have already been charged to court, while investigations and profiling are still ongoing to establish possible wider connections to other criminal networks operating within the state.
Nguroje noted that the operation forms part of sustained efforts to rid Adamawa of gang related violence and criminal activity, especially within urban centres where Shilla influence has been a growing concern.
The Commissioner of Police praised the officers involved in the operation for their discipline and professionalism, reaffirming the command’s determination to dismantle criminal groups and strengthen security across the state.
He also called on residents to remain alert and support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and reliable information that could assist law enforcement in preventing and addressing crime, Zoyols News reports.
