South African star Tyla has declared that African artists are only getting started on the global awards stage after making history at the 68th Grammy Awards.
The 24-year-old singer claimed the Best African Music Performance prize at the ceremony held at the Crypto.com Arena, earning the honour for her hit single Push 2 Start. With the win, Tyla became the first artist to take the category twice since it was created, having previously won in 2024 with her breakout track Water.
The achievement further strengthens her status as one of Africa’s most successful musical exports and a leading voice in the continent’s growing global influence. Speaking shortly after her win, Tyla reflected on what the moment represents beyond her personal success.
She described the recognition as overwhelming, noting that it reinforces the belief that artists from Africa can reach the very top of the global music industry. According to her, the win is proof that talent from the continent has a real shot on the world’s biggest stages.
Tyla also stressed that while recent successes are worth celebrating, there is still more ground to cover. She said she looks forward to seeing more African women and other stars from the continent take home major awards, adding confidently that Africans are coming for more Grammys.
Her latest win stands as both a personal milestone and a wider statement about the rising power of African music, a movement that continues to gain momentum and demand global attention.
