Airtel Africa has reaffirmed its commitment to shaping the continent’s digital transformation, emphasizing that collaboration, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and modern data infrastructure are vital to building a sustainable digital future.
Speaking at the Mobile World Congress (MWC25) in Kigali, Rwanda, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Sunil Taldar, described the coming decade as a defining moment for Africa’s telecom industry. He said the focus must now shift from simply connecting people to empowering them to create value through those connections.
Taldar noted that Africa’s next leap will be driven by collective effort — partnerships among operators, support from regulators and investors, and innovation from Africa’s growing youth population.
“Africa’s digital decade has begun,” he declared. “The continent that once leapfrogged into mobile telephony is now ready to leap again — into an era where every byte of data fuels productivity and every connection drives prosperity.”
He further explained that this transformation requires an ecosystem where data is processed locally, innovation thrives, and homegrown talent leads the charge.
Taldar added that Airtel Africa remains focused on driving this vision by investing in technology, nurturing digital skills, and strengthening partnerships that will help unlock Africa’s vast economic potential.
According to him, the continent’s future lies not just in connectivity but in creating opportunities through digital empowerment — building an Africa where innovation is scaled globally and prosperity is shared locally.
